NFL 25 Dream Teams that ended up being failures: 9. 1999 Dallas Cowboys

Another Dallas Cowboys team that didn’t live up to expectations. At least this team actually came with championships before it. The 1999 Dallas Cowboys still had all the greats on the roster. Troy Aikman was trying to lead the Cowboys to another Super Bowl. Emmitt Smith is one of the best running backs in the game at a time when it actually mattered.  They still had Deion Sanders running a very good defense. The stars were up and down the roster.

Again, look at this roster. Aikman, Sanders, Michael Irvin, Rocket Ismail, Dexter Coakley, Darren Woodson, and Greg Ellis are just some of the stars. Then, everything started to go wrong. Michael Irvin got injured. It was devastating. He really injured his spinal cord on Astroturf, and the Cowboys were forced to pick up the pieces from that.

The Cowboys were 3-0 when the Irvin injury happened. Things eventually seemed like they were going to be like they had been. The Cowboys fell apart right after that. They lost two games in a row, and they spent the rest of the season trading wins and losses.

They actually made the playoffs, but as an 8-8 team, it was just for show. They got destroyed by a superior Minnesota Vikings teams. Who knows what would have happened without that Michael Irvin injury. Or maybe things would be easier if it was just a normal injury things would be easier to get past. The injury derailed the season, and the Cowboys moved on from Irvin and Sanders the next season. It was the start of a dark era of football for Big D.
