NFL 25 Dream Teams that ended up being failures: 6. 1970 New York Jets

New York Jets were riding high after winning Super Bowl III. Joe Namath became an international superstar with countless marketing opportunities and a new brand as the face of the AFL. Things didn’t go so bad in 1969, as the traditional Super Bowl hangover wasn’t the case. Joe Namath won the league MVP that season.

It was 1970 where things fell completely off the rails. The season started with the first-ever Monday Night Football broadcast with the team losing to the Browns on national television. They tried to keep their head above water for the first month, but then Namath broke his wrist and was lost for the season. That was a death knell.

Al Woodall tried his best to keep the Jets afloat. He was able to orchestrate upsets of the Rams and Vikings, winning three games in a row, and keeping the team with an outside shot at the playoffs. Then, they lost the rest of the games of the season. The Jets finished with four wins, and one of the superstar teams of 1970 was going down with a whimper.

Namath had one good season after this, and the Jets franchise has been… well… the Jets for the next 50 years.
