NFL Pro Bowl Snub No. 4: Cordarrelle Patterson, RB/WR, Atlanta Falcons

Perhaps this one is due to Cordarelle Patterson not having a defined position. The veteran journeyman is on his fifth NFL team as he never truly panned out as a first-round pick for the Minnesota Vikings back in 2013.

He also spent time with the Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots, and Chicago Bears. In 2021, he joined the Atlanta Falcons and has not disappointed. Patterson, who has been a wide receiver throughout his career, has lined up in the backfield at times — including 2018 when he ran for 228 yards on 42 attempts for New England.

This year, he’s done much more work as a running back as he had 565 yards and five touchdowns for the Falcons on 133 rushing attempts. All of these are career-highs for the 30-year-old. As if that wasn’t enough, he also has 48 receptions for 524 yards and five touchdowns as a pass-catcher. The yardage and touchdowns are also career-highs for Patterson and he’s just four receptions from tying his personal best from 2016.

Patterson does have some Pro Bowl experience, making it four times as a special teams player. This year, he hasn’t done a lot in terms of returning the ball but that’s because of how much the Atlanta offense relies on him. And his performance is a huge reason this season hasn’t been a complete waste for the Dirty Birds.
