Michael Thomas 2022 NFL Draft replacement options for the Saints
Replacing Michael Thomas won’t be easy, but there are three prospects in the 2022 NFL Draft who can help.
No one can question the tenacity of New Orleans Saints. This is a team that relies on their defensive prowess to make things happen — it wasn’t supposed to be that way. Sure, the latter part of Drew Brees’ career saw him rely on the defense more. However, the offense had two of the best players at their position to help.
Running back Alvin Kamara and wide receiver Michael Thomas made up the dynamic duo in an offense that could score on teams — that’s not the case right now.
Kamara is still doing his thing, despite fighting some injuries. His partner in crime, Michael Thomas, is not. A setback from post ankle surgery sidelined Thomas for the entire 2021 NFL season. According to Pro Football Talk, things weren’t going well before that.
"The relationship between Thomas and the Saints seems fractured, as evidenced by Thomas posting a tweet implying that the team tried to damage his reputation."
One can imagine if Thomas wanted out before, he’ll likely still want out. With Bress gone, there are still questions about the quarterback position Jameis Winston (injured) will hit the free-agent market. Taysom Hill has done his best but still doesn’t look like starting NFL quarterback, but if he had a number one wideout, I imagine he would look a lot better.
No matter who is quarterbacking the Saints, they’ll need a top wideout. If Thomas leaves, no need to worry. The 2022 NFL Draft has a few prospects capable of replacing Thomas.
