FanDuel DFS NFL Week 16 picks and lineup advice: Running Back
The first thing you will notice when looking at the running back position is that many of the top backs are not actually playing. Since nothing is ever certain in the COVID era and anything can change at any given second, there will likely be some heavy values at the running back position come 12 pm on Sunday.
James Robinson ($8200) ends up being my number one back on the slate against an awful Jets defense that is dealing with lots of COVID positives, but he has recently popped up on the injury report. With that being said, I actually like saving up at the running back position this week and trying to squeeze a few cheaper options in and paying up at wide receiver.
Joe Mixon ($7500) looks to be fully healthy and gets a strong matchup against the Ravens. He is way too cheap for what he has done this season and is a strong play in both cash and tournament lineups at that price.
Additionally, Cordarrelle Patterson ($7200) is one of my favorite plays of the week as he should make up a majority of the Falcons offense against a poor Detroit defense. Additionally, with Jared Goff out, the game script should be positive for the Falcons, meaning Patterson could be in for more work on the ground than usual.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire ($6500) is also ridiculously cheap for his potential in a Chiefs offense without Kelce or Hill. The Steelers run defense has been vulnerable as of late, and he should be able to take advantage.
As for some cheap options that will surely be popular, Alexander Mattison ($5500), Ronald Jones II ($5400), and Justin Jackson ($5400) are just a few backups that will be in most lineups this week due to injury and COVID rule outs.
However, someone who I am keeping my eye on is Rex Burkhead ($5400), who could be in for a solid role if David Johnson is ruled out against a soft Chargers defense that is also dealing with COVID. Of the other three names that I mentioned above, Justin Jackson is easily my favorite if Ekeler is indeed to miss, though Mattison has proved himself to be the most talented of the three and I think all will provide value at their cheap price point.
