There are an embarrassingly low amount of positives surrounding the Washington Football Team right now.

There is one word to describe the Washington Football Team right now – embarrassing. This is the same team that just three weeks ago was boasting a four-game winning streak and held on to a Wild Card spot.

Now though, Washington is mired in a three-game slide. They’ve been hit with injuries galore and a COVID-19 outbreak, sure. But every team has to deal with injuries and some COVID problems – so that’s no excuse.

Taylor Heinicke was having a good year, up until a couple of weeks ago. Now he looks lost and shouldn’t be playing anymore. Terry McLaurin has been non-existent (mostly due to the QB play though to be fair). Antonio Gibson‘s been bad. The offensive line has done nothing to help recently. And the defense has been horrid (I mean Washington just lost 56-14 to the Dallas Cowboys).

Those three losses coming against the Cowboys (twice) and the Philadelphia Eagles (once) make it even worse. The NFC East is burying the Washington Football Team right now.

So where are the positives? There has to be some right? It’s getting really difficult to find some. Washington’s been that bad. And the COVID outbreak/injuries haven’t helped either. Just look at the last two weeks for the perfect example of COVID making it even harder. Those two games saw Bunmi Rotimi and De’Jon Harris pick up sacks for Washington. Cool, and great for them honestly – that’s awesome. But it’s really hard to see either being part of the future plans for the Washington Football Team.

Da’Ron Payne had a sack this week and Jonathan Allen had a sack prior (and is having a career year). They also got into a fight on the sidelines though. Truthfully, I don’t think much of it. Washington was getting obliterated by a major rival and tensions were high. Still though, it adds to the embarrassment.

Tackle Sam Cosmi looks like there’s legitimate star potential there. Wide receiver Dyami Brown set a new career-high in receiving yards this week (53). Still, he did it on two catches and has just 11 for 140 yards on the season. Tight end John Bates also set a new career-high in receiving yards this week (45) on two catches. And he did so while scoring his first career touchdown. Meanwhile, Defensive back Jeremy Reaves has looked good since being given a chance.

Those are the only real “positives”. And they are pretty weak.

After that, it feels like the biggest positive is that Washington is currently holding on to the ninth overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. And with two games left, they might get even better. Especially considering how badly they’ve been playing – it’s hard to imagine Washington winning any more games (maybe they beat the New York Giants but who knows).

Adding an early-first-rounder next season is nice. And getting Chase Young back will be great too. But those are positives for next season. And it’s just really sad that we’re trying to find things for the next season when the current one is still going on.

I definitely lean heavily on the positive side of things. But the Washington Football Team is making it really difficult to do that right now. Hopefully, they can inject some life into the team over these final two weeks. It would be nice for fans to have something to be excited about when it comes to the team before the draft. That sadly feels like a long shot though.
