Dallas Cowboys Round 2 Pick: Cameron Thomas, EDGE, San Diego State

In Round 1, the Cowboys bolstered the interior of their defensive line with the selection of Jordan Davis. Now in the second, they go for a defensive end as they pick up Cameron Thomas from San Diego State.

Dallas has some talented players who can get after the quarterback including linebacker Micah Parsons and defensive ends DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory. However, Gregory is a free agent after the season and while they would like to re-sign him, there’s no guarantee they can make the money work.

In addition to that, there’s a need for more depth which is why Thomas is added with this pick. Listed at 6-foot-5 and 270-pounds, Thomas also possesses the size to slide inside meaning the Cowboys could feature packages with him, Lawrence, Gregory (if re-signed), and Parsons.

Dallas Cowboys Round 3 Pick: Jaxson Kirkland, OT, Washington

One continuing issue the Cowboys have had to deal with is the injuries along the offensive line. Most notable has been Tyron Smith, who is still an elite player but can’t play an entire season.

They do like Terence Steele, even if he showed off his tight end chops recently, but can’t just hand him the job. They’ll also need more depth even if he does prove to be the future at left tackle. Washington’s Jaxson Kirkland could provide that competition and even if he can’t even overtake Steele, he’s a capable swing tackle.
