NFL: 25 Most Surprising Pro Bowl Picks This Century: 17. 2006 Koren Robinson

Koren Robinson is one of those names you know you’ve heard before, but you have to see him in either a Seahawks or Vikings uniform to really remember why you remember him. Robinson was never a superstar, but he was a well-known wide receiver who always seemed like he could break out. He just never truly did. He got close in 2002 where he had more than 1,200 yards receiving. He never came close to those numbers, and that wasn’t even the year he made the Pro Bowl.

Robinson made the Pro Bowl as a returner in 2005-06.  It was the first time in his career that he returned kicks, and it came in his one and only season with the Minnesota Vikings. They signed him in the offseason, and they felt like his best role was as a returner only. A former 1,200-yard receiver only had 347 yards that season. He became a player who only returned kicks. That was what his career became.

He did have a kick return for a touchdown this season, and he averaged 26 yards per return. He was electric in this aspect of the game.

He would go on to play for the Green Bay Packers and then a second stint with the Seahawks. It was a strange career for Robinson, but how many Pro Bowl wide receivers could people name before they get to the name “Koren Robinson”? He was someone who made somewhat of an impact, but it always felt muted.
