NFL: 25 Most Surprising Pro Bowl Picks This Century: 14. 2018 Jared Goff

Jared Goff is a former first-overall pick in the NFL Draft and led a team to a Super Bowl. These all feel like lies after the season he just had with the Detroit Lions, but they are true. He was on his way to superstardom when he signed that massive contract, and it led to his first Pro Bowl season in 2017. It will likely be his only Pro Bowl season, as Goff seems to have taken six or seven steps back since this year.

Jared Goff threw for 3,800 yards and 28 touchdowns in his second year in the league. He would make the Pro Bowl again in his third year in the league. Jared Goff made the Pro Bowl in two of his first six seasons, and now he might not even be a starter in his seventh season. Goff has had one of the most precipitous falls from grace we’ve ever seen in the NFL when we’re only focusing about what the player does on the field.

Goff played alongside Drew Brees and Russell Wilson in 2018 and he was even voted to the 2019 edition of the Pro Bowl before he had to bow out so he could play in the Super Bowl. He only scored three points in that Super Bowl, and he’s never been the same since.

It’s wild to see how quickly a career can fall apart. Goff was someone who was really good to start his career. He wasn’t considered one of the best quarterbacks in the league, but he wasn’t someone the Rams would want to get rid of. Now, they were so desperate to get his contract off their books, they threw in an extra first-round pick to the Lions just to take him.
