4. Jimmy Garoppolo (Trade, 49ers)
If Jimmy Garoppolo can help take the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl, could he do it for the Green Bay Packers?
Matt LaFleur is a longtime disciple of the Shanahan/Kubiak coaching tree, and if Garoppolo is on his way out of San Francisco, could he join a Shanahan disciple in Green Bay?
As I was writing up this post, this move actually made a ton of sense. Garoppolo may not be everyone’s cup of tea, and he may not be a quarterback who is the tide to raise all boats around him, but he’s a solid NFL starter and has been the starter in a lot of victories.
The 49ers will likely look to move forward with Trey Lance as their primary starter in 2022 and beyond, so they’ll probably do Garoppolo a solid and perhaps let him pick from interested teams in a trade this offseason.
The Packers could be a team that expresses interest, again — if Aaron Rodgers is out of the picture.
If Rodgers is out, I can’t help but think the Packers might be slightly hesitant to just move on to Jordan Love. At the very least, Jimmy Garoppolo would represent a solid fail-safe plan and is someone who has proven he can help take a team deep into the postseason.
We’ll see if he can do it again in the next couple of weeks.
