29. Kansas City Chiefs: Travon Walker, DE, Georgia

There’s a real temptation to go with a wide receiver here for the Kansas City Chiefs, especially with Byron Pringle set for free agency. But with Jahan Dotson going one pick before they’re on the clock, they go in a different direction and take Travon Walker from Georgia.

It’s no secret that the University of Georgia has the best defense in the nation. They have a chance to finish as the best team even as they face Alabama in a re-match, but this time with the NCAA Championship on the line.

While the offense can do a lot of damage, the Georgia defense is what makes them championship-caliber. Here, another member of their front-seven gets selected as Travon Walker joins Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean as Round 1 picks.

Kansas City’s defense has been steadily improving this year and adding a dynamic linebacker could help them take another step forward.

Back on the clock for their second pick, the Detroit Lions take Devin Lloyd from Utah as they continue to focus on building up their defense.

The Utes linebacker was already considered a solid prospect but really cemented himself as a day one pick with a strong 2021 campaign. He had 111 tackles, seven sacks, and four picks in his redshirt junior campaign — proving he’s a three-down linebacker who can be a difference-maker.
