The Chicago Bears have opted to go with a complete restructure, firing both head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace.
In a move that no one should be surprised by, the Chicago Bears have announced the firings of head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace.
The search for a new head coach and a new general manager in Chicago is officially on.
The only question that remains, however, is what they choose to do with team President Ted Phillips, whose tenure with the organization has provided less than desirable results and various complaints among the fanbase.
As it pertains to Nagy and Pace, there was no sugarcoating the situation. Nagy’s tenure as head coach, although providing a winning record, produced offenses that never registered in the top half of the league.
The Chicago Bears will be looking for new leadership after firing both Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace
The 2018 12-4 miracle season was made possible by contributions from the defense, largely the number of turnovers they created.
Additionally, the stubborn mindset to start Andy Dalton and other veterans like Germain Ifedi, and, with all due respect, Jason Peters, as opposed to giving as many chances as possible to younger stars like Justin Fields, Teven Jenkins, Thomas Graham Jr, and Larry Borom, left a bad taste.
In the case of Pace, salary cap mismanagement and over-aggressive trades for both players and throughout the draft didn’t help his cause either. Modernizing the football atmosphere, along with great communication and collaboration doesn’t translate to wins, reshaping the culture does.
Still, all eyes will be on owner George McCaskey and what he opts to do in this situation, especially with what happens with Phillips. Chicago needs a complete restructure, but it can only happen if everything is wiped clean and started fresh.
