Houston Texans option no. 2: Josh McDaniels, Patriots OC

When Nick Caserio was initially hired by the Houston Texans, there were plenty of rumors surrounding longtime Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

McDaniels got a head coaching opportunity back in 2009 with the Denver Broncos. Late Hall of Famer Pat Bowlen likely thought — at the time — that McDaniels could become for the Broncos what Sean McVay has become for the Los Angeles Rams.

Unfortunately, McDaniels was anything but. He completely gutted a talented offensive roster and was fired midway through the 2010 season after someone on his staff was caught filming the San Francisco 49ers’ practice at the two teams’ London game.

McDaniels’ most recent head coaching opportunity came with the Indianapolis Colts, a job he accepted and then backed out of.

How can anyone really trust this guy?

Anyone, that is, except for Bill Belichick.

McDaniels and Caserio undoubtedly know each other very well. That relationship and prior history together along with the opportunity to really shape this roster however they want could appeal to McDaniels.
