Chicago Bears GM candidate Joe Schoen

Schoen is the Bills’ assistant general manager. He is Brandon Bean’s right-hand man. With Buffalo’s success, he’s garnered a lot of attention.

The Bears have been interested in Schoen for a while now, and it appears that Schoen is interested in them as well.

Schoen has 20 years of scouting and executive experience. He started his career as an intern with the Carolina Panthers. From there he became one of their scouting assistants. He went on to become the Dolphins’ assistant director of college scouting. He was promoted to director of player personnel.

After Chairman of the Board George McCaskey declared that he would have the final say in the hires, it appears that the search is actually going the correct way. While the searches are concurrent, it seems that the Bears want to choose a general manager before finalizing the head coach. That means the new general manager will have a greater say in choosing the head coach than once thought.

If Schoen ends up being the pick, that raises the chances that he’ll bring in one of his coaches. Having someone he already trusts in a new place will speed up the process of rebuilding the Bears. Also, he knows what makes both Daboll and Frazier tick so there won’t be any time necessary for them to get to know each other. He can hit the ground running and get the players needed to win right away.
