Cleveland Browns: Baker Mayfield

Would the Cleveland Browns really move on from their former number one overall pick in 2022?

The Browns have understandably not given Baker Mayfield a contract extension up to this point.

Even after a great rookie season with the team and some great moments since then, Mayfield has not exactly been a model of consistency and he’s certainly had no lack of support since coming into the NFL.

The Browns hired Kevin Stefanski last year, and he was immediately named NFL coach of the year. They have an outstanding running game and offensive line. They have built an impressive young defense with studs at all three levels. They have gone out and made big-time pickups at receiver and tight end.

Despite all of this, Mayfield’s future has consistently come into question.

He simply isn’t consistent, but it seems like the Browns are going to give him another year.

What choice do they really have? Will they trade him to the highest bidder and just hope an alternative situation presents itself.

For lack of a better term, the Browns are sort of just stuck with Mayfield right now.
