Miami Dolphins: Tua Tagovailoa

Why did the Miami Dolphins fire Brian Flores after three seasons, the last two of which included a winning record?

We know that part of the reason Flores was fired was due to “relationships” in the building. It’s also clear that Flores never developed a real trust for Tua Tagovailoa. He routinely towed the company line by stating that Tua Tagovailoa was the team’s quarterback when Deshaun Watson trade rumors persisted, but it’s clear now that owner Stephen Ross and general manager Chris Grier did not see eye-to-eye with Flores at QB.

The Dolphins took Tagovailoa over Justin Herbert in the 2020 NFL Draft, and when you look at the records of the Chargers and Dolphins over the last two years, you might just wonder if the Dolphins made the right call after all.

Of course, the record of the team is a team stat and Tagovailoa has clearly not made as big of an impression on the NFL in two seasons as Herbert has with the Chargers.

Still, without Flores, I don’t see the Dolphins trading for Deshaun Watson and I think the decision to fire Flores further cements the fact that this team is rolling with Tagovailoa in 2022.
