The Steelers will be looking for their first franchise quarterback in nearly two decades, and here is a shortlist of potential suitors for the role.

The Steelers have long been one of the faces of consistency in the, and much of that is in thanks to Ben Roethlisberger’s play for the past 18 seasons. With 2021 likely being his last season, the team will have to hunt for a new quarterback in the offseason. With 2022 set to feature a flurry of potential quarterbacks on the move, Pittsburgh should have a wealth of options to choose from.

This list is built with the idea of who the team would likely start in 2022 based on who is available or likely to be available this offseason. Important to note is that there are no rookies on this list, as even if the team does take a quarterback in the draft, the intent will be not to start them. With all of that said, here are the six most likely quarterbacks to start for the Steelers in 2022.

Steelers could start Dwayne Haskins in 2022

Dwayne Haskins, to this point, has been a relatively unremarkable add for the Steelers. He was signed in the offseason and never had to play. While that is a good thing for a third-string quarterback, it means that the questions he had in the last offseason still exist. That said, he is young, was a first-round pick, and possesses a lot of the traits the team wants in a quarterback.

Haskins possesses a strong arm and that is about it at this point. His accuracy is hit or miss, and his athleticism is mediocre. He can progress through reads on occasion, but he usually forces throws to his first read when under pressure. His off-the-field issues appear to be cleaned up as of now, as there haven’t been reports like the ones he had in Washington.

While he could certainly stick around and compete, I have a hard time seeing him pan out as the next Steelers quarterback. He will be cheap this offseason, as his original round tender should only cost in the neighborhood of 2.5 million dollars. Expect him to be brought to training camp to compete, but the odds of him becoming the starter keep him low on the list.
