25 Most Disappointing 1 Seeds In NFL Playoff History: 16. 1985 Los Angeles Raiders

The 1985 Los Angeles Raiders were still holding on to the days of their dynasty. They were just two years removed from their last Super Bowl Championship, but they did not know what was ahead of them. Things would fall apart for the franchise after the season. The team in 1985 was the catalyst for what comes next because they wildly underwhelmed in the playoffs.

They were a destroyer of worlds in the regular season. Marcus Allen won the league MVP after rushing for 1,759 yards. The Raiders won 12 games, good enough for the number-one seed in the AFC. They were motivated after a Wild Card loss to the Seahawks the season before. They won the final six games of the season including two overtime games against the Denver Broncos.

The Raiders welcomed the New England Patriots to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Nobody expected much from this Patriots team. They went into the playoffs against the Raiders, and they proved to be a confident foe. Craig James totaled 150 yards on the ground and through the air, and Tony Eason did his best to avoid the major mistake. The Raiders, on the other hand, saw quarterback Marc Wilson throw three interceptions.

That was the difference. With Super Bowl winner Jim Plunkett on the bench, the Raiders watched their preferred starter Wilson throw them out of the game. The Raiders were shut out in the second half, which gave the Patriots all the firepower they needed to come back and win the game.
