Buccaneers: 3 options to replace Tom Brady should he retire
By Randy Gurzi
Tom Brady replacement option No. 2: Derek Carr
Bruce Arians is known for airing the ball out. Derek Carr led the Las Vegas Raiders to the postseason in 2021 by throwing the ball deep – and while he completed a lot of passes, he also got the defense to commit pass interference on multiple occasions which was just as effective.
Having said that, there’s a growing sense that Carr could be on the move. Sure, this has been discussed before but this time, things feel different with the Raiders. They just fired their general manager after losing Jon Gruden in the early part of the season.
This means they will be looking for a new head coach as well as a new front office. That could mean this new staff might prefer to get some capital for Carr and get their own guy to build around.
Carr is set to turn 31, making him a far younger option than Brady. And while he’s not the same caliber quarterback as the GOAT, he does have some impressive numbers in his career. That was especially true this past season as he had 4,804 yards passing despite having a slot receiver (Hunter Renfrow) serving as his No. 1 guy.
In Tampa Bay, he would have a much more dangerous passing attack with Mike Evans and possibly Chris Godwinif they can bring him back. Even if they can’t, Scotty Miller, Cameron Brate and Tyler Johnson who have all performed well when called upon.
