Dan Quinn was a hot name in the head coaching search but he’s staying with the Dallas Cowboys. That’s especially good news for these three players.

On Thursday afternoon, the Dallas Cowboys received some good news when Dan Quinn informed the team he was not going to be taking on a head coaching job this coming season. That meant he would remain with Dallas as the defensive coordinator for at least one more season.

Quinn, who was previously a head coach with the Atlanta Falcons, was a finalist for the Denver Broncos job — and was a hot name around the league for teams looking for a new coach. However, the Broncos went with Nathaniel Hackett and that was apparently the only position Quinn was considering because he quickly returned his focus to the Cowboys after that was announced.

While the Cowboys organization as a whole has to be thrilled with his return, there are several players who will really benefit. Here are the three main guys who should be celebrating the return of their defensive play-caller.

3. Dallas Cowboys EDGE, Randy Gregory

This first name comes with a caveat as defensive end Randy Gregory is set for free agency during the coming offseason. However, with the way the Cowboys kept him on their roster for years while he battled off-field issues and served suspensions, it would be weird to see the two sides split up now.

As long as Gregory does return, he should be ecstatic about the return of DQ. Gregory had an incredibly productive season working with Quinn, tying his career high with six sacks on the campaign. He also had a personal best 29 quarterback pressures as Quinn used him with his hand in the dirt as well as in a two-point stance throughout the season.

Gregory is a perfect fit in the ‘designated pass rusher’ role that Quinn likes to employ and a reunion with these two should bring even more positive results.
