3 free agents Dallas Cowboys cannot afford to lose
By Randy Gurzi
1. Dallas Cowboys EDGE Randy Gregory
Micah Parsons led the Dallas Cowboys with 13 sacks this season as he spent the majority of his time in the opposing backfield. The rookie was simply unstoppable and will continue to be the focal point of this defense going forward.
After him, in terms of sacks, came Randy Gregory. The veteran defensive end finally stayed eligible for an entire season and while he missed five games due to an injury, he did still play from start to finish and had his best campaign to date.
He ended up with just 19 tackles but had six sacks and was credited with 29 quarterback pressures. He provides a great burst of speed at defensive end that compliments the powerful DeMarcus Lawrence incredibly well. He’s also become a leader on this team due to his ability to push through adversity.
The question, however, is what Gregory wants. Should he be willing to go out and cash in, there will definitely be a team that will pay him more than the Cowboys can afford. However, he was helped out throughout the years by this organization and while many others would have turned their back on him, Dallas never wavered in their support.
Could that lead to the two sides finding a fair deal that pays Gregory what he deserves while also making sure they don’t cripple their cap? They surely hope so because this is arguably the most important free agent that they need to re-sign.
