In 2021, the Philadelphia Eagles were the No. 1 team in the NFL when it came to rushing, putting up 2,715 yards. They also held their own on defense against the run, finishing ninth in the NFL with 1,834 yards surrendered.

Head coach Nick Sirianni made it clear he wanted to be a pass-first team but the Eagles were anything but. Considering their strong run in the second half of the season, which landed them in the playoffs was aided by the run, he also has to agree it’s still an important aspect in the league today.

Teams that can run control the clock and can close out games. Teams that can stop the run can dictate the pace as well. That’s why the Eagles use their second pick in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft on Jordan Davis — also from Georgia like Nakobe Dean who just landed with them on the prior pick.

Davis is a massive nose tackle at 6-foot-6 and 340-pounds. He has the ability to play three downs but has often been kept on the field for just early downs, in large part due to endurance. While the Eagles might not be getting a player who will log the most snaps, they get someone who is incredibly dangerous and can shut down the opposition’s run game.
