Detroit Lions take a risk late in 2022 NFL mock draft

31. Detroit Lions (via Los Angeles Rams): Jameson Williams, WR, Alabama

An injury suffered in the final game of his collegiate career could end up hurting the draft stock of Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams. He hurt his knee during their title game against the Georgia Bulldogs and to display how tough he is, head coach Nick Saban had to force him not to re-enter the game.

Then, an MRI revealed he had a torn ACL which casts some doubt on his availability for the 2022 season. Teams often overthink this and will skip on an injured player, as if they don’t realize they can actually still have them on their roster when they return to health.

For the Detroit Lions, this ends up being a blessing for them as Williams is still on the board near the end of Round 1 in this mock — and they need a new No. 1 wide receiver in the worst way. Williams, who transferred from Ohio State to Alabama due to the depth around him with the Buckeyes ended up making the most of his chance with the Tide.

He recorded 79 receptions for 1,572 yards and 15 touchdowns as he asserted himself as one of the best in the class. Once he is able to suit up in Detroit, he should help everyone on their offense perform better as he attracts plenty of attention from opposing defensive backs.
