Potential Cap Casualty: DeMarcus Lawrence

While all eyes will be on what the Cowboys do with Amari Cooper this offseason, they will need to make more moves than just freeing up space with one of their top receivers. Considering they have the third-worst cap space in the league, there will have to be some considerable names that are released. One such name could be DeMarcus Lawrence.

A former top edge rusher, Lawrence has been good since receiving his new deal, but his play has paled in comparison to what type of money he is getting paid.

His sack numbers are down significantly, and while he commands a lot of attention when healthy, he is getting paid a lot of money to just simply take up space.

The Cowboys can save 8-million in cap space by releasing him and a whopping $19 million if he is designated as a post-June-1st cap casualty. If the Cowboys need to clear up considerable cap space, then he makes the most sense to go. While a good player, he isn’t living up to his current deal. Don’t be shocked to see him be moved this offseason.
