San Francisco 49ers: Jermaine Johnson, EDGE, Florida State

The San Francisco 49ers fell just short of reaching a second Super Bowl in the last three seasons. The difference between winning and losing a game like that could be as simple as swapping out Jimmy Garoppolo for Trey Lance, but the 49ers could use even more of a presence off the edge opposite Nick Bosa as well.

The football gods may be smiling down upon the 49ers this offseason if Demeco Ryans is not hired away by anyone as head coach just yet.

One more season of continuity with Ryans and that defensive unit could wind up being a top-five unit before too long.

The 49ers don’t pick until the late portion of the second round, but they still might be able to take advantage of the depth of this outstanding EDGE class.

Jermaine Johnson may have had a little envy over the fact that his former team — the Georgia Bulldogs — was able to beat Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide in the National Championship.

He won’t be upset for too long, though, because his move to Florida State made him a bunch of money in terms of improved NFL Draft stock.

He has nearly 35-inch arms and he uses that length to his advantage working off the edge. He piled up 70 total tackles this season with 17.5 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
