Jacksonville Jaguars target #3: Derek Barnett, EDGE

The Jaguars need some more pass rush productivity.

Former first-round pick Josh Allen led the team with 7.5 sacks this past season, and Dawuane Smoot added six. Those two combined for 30 QB hits on the season.

That simply isn’t going to cut it when it comes to creating pressure over the course of the season.

Derek Barnett has not lived up to his billing as a former first-round draft selection, racking up only two sacks and 11 QB hits in 16 games this past season.

At the age of 25, however, better days could still be ahead.

Barnett has obviously played in the biggest of big games and back in the 2017 season, his rookie year in the NFL, he appeared well on his way to a very productive NFL career.

His best season came in 2019 with 10 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, and 22 QB hits. Even if he could return to that kind of production, it would be a huge boost for a team like the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Coming off of a down year, the Jaguars might even be able to get Barnett at somewhat of a decent price, too.
