Mike McDaniel is the new head coach for the Miami Dolphins and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him target these 3 free agents from the San Francisco 49ers

Late Sunday night, the Miami Dolphins announced they had their guy. Following a search that included multiple interviews with young offensive minds such as Mike McDaniel and Kellen Moore, Miami elected to go with McDaniel.

The assistant coach has been with the San Francisco 49ers since 2017 but took over the offensive coordinator role in 2021 and became a hot name in coaching searches. McDaniel has been groomed for this for quite some time, working alongside Kyle Shanahan since their days with the Houston Texans — and even broke into the coaching ranks as an intern in 2005 with the Denver Broncos where he worked with Mike Shanahan.

McDaniel will now have a huge task ahead of him in Miami as he tries to get them over the hump and back into the playoffs. As he looks to do just that, he could try and recruit a few free agents from his old club.

Heading into the offseason, one of the biggest goals for the Miami Dolphins has to be improving their offensive line. They have invested a lot of resources in their front lines but the results have not been what they expected.

McDaniel, however, doesn’t have ties to any of the returning players so he won’t be inclined to keep them if there are better alternatives. One such alternative could be Laken Tomlinson, who was originally a first-round pick of the Detroit Lions in 2015 but really took off once he landed with the Niners.

He was one of the top players at the position in 2021 and even made it to his first Pro Bowl. McDaniel could use his ability to open up running lanes and it wouldn’t be a shock to see him try and lure the big guy to South Beach.
