Dallas Cowboys Round 3 pick: Boye Mafe, EDGE, Minnesota

This is a pick that seems possible right now and happened courtesy of The Draft Network’s Mock Draft Machine, but it might not stay possible for long. In this mock, Minnesota defensive end Boye Mafe was available but he has enough talent to go much earlier than this.

Mafe has an incredible first step and improved every season for the Gophers. He finished 2021 with 34 tackles (10 for a loss) and seven sacks. Of course, this class has some very talented defensive linemen, which is why there’s still a chance Mafe slides this far. If he does, Dallas should run to the podium to put this name down and add another playmaker to their defensive end group.

Dallas Cowboys Round 4 pick: Nick Cross, S, Maryland

Dallas needs to figure out what they’re doing at safety in 2022. They have three players who were major contributors in 2021 hitting free agency with Jayron Kearse, Damontae Kazee, and Malik Hooker all finishing this season after getting one-year deals.

They’re surely going to try and retain a couple of them but it’s highly unlikely they get all three — in fact, being able to afford two feels like a stretch.

That’s why they grab Nick Cross here, as they bring in another player capable of lining up at free safety for them. Cross recorded five picks in his career, with three coming this past season. He has some developing to do but there’s plenty to like in his game and he could be a starter down the road.
