NFL head coach hires: Josh McDaniels, Las Vegas Raiders
Josh McDaniels seems to all of a sudden leap to the top of the Raiders’ head coaching search. The hiring seemed to happen rather quickly, and now McDaniels, the long-time offensive coordinator in New England, is headed to Las Vegas with a new stadium and a quarterback who needs a long-term extension.
The Raiders were seeing some success with former head coach Jon Gruden, and they kept consistency by hiring another offensive-minded guy.
Rich Bisaccia guided Vegas through a dramatic season, leading to a 10-7 record and a playoff berth.
While Bisaccia did an admirable job, it’s clear that he probably was not the long-term answer.
McDaniels, 45 is still relatively young but has been a coordinator since 2006, so he’s bringing about 15 years of experience.
This was a good hire for the Raiders, and I would expect them to pick up where they left off at the end of the 2021 NFL season.
