The annual NFL Honors show got off to a hot start when host Keegan-Michael Key started things off with a shot at former Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer

To say Urban Meyer’s run in the NFL was a failure might be an understatement. The former National Champion was a disaster in the professional league and even though he’s already gone, he was still the source of some solid entertainment early in the NFL Honors ceremony.

Host Keegan-Michael Key got things rolling early as he had a joke about how it was nice to see some people in attendance after an empty audience in 2021 due to Covid concerns.

In fact, Key said it was “emptier than Urban Meyer’s playbook.”

Meyer had plenty of success at the collegiate level, going 187-32 with a record of 12-3 in bowl games. He coached Bowling Green, Utah, Florida, and Ohio State and won championships with the Gators and Buckeyes.

He finally decided to take a shot at the NFL after not coaching for a few seasons and joined the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021. The roster he inherited left a lot to be desired but Meyer did have the No. 1 overall pick which was used on Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

However, he wasn’t able to get Lawrence rolling. The Jags ended up going 2-11 with Meyer as the coach and in addition to his shortcomings as a coach, he was also causing issues off the field.

Meyer drew some heat for ditching his team after a game and heading to Ohio, where he was seen spending some quality time with a woman who was not his wife.

On top of the morality questions, Meyer seemed lost. He complained that the NFL was like facing Alabama every week and seemed to think 250 yards rushing and passing every single game was a possibility in the NFL — and all one had to do to achieve this was simply demand it from his team.

Meyer flamed out in a hurry and it’s only fitting to see him taking some shots during the league’s annual awards ceremony.
