The New Orleans Saints are well over the salary cap and could be looking to make some moves, should the Dallas Cowboys have any interest?

Yes, the Dallas Cowboys are in rough shape with the 2022 salary cap but it’s nothing compared to what the New Orleans Saints have going on. Entering the offseason, they’re a projected $76 million over the cap, meaning they have to make some cost-cutting moves.

Typically for them, they have kicked the can down the road and spread money around but that could change now. With Sean Payton out and Dennis Allen in as their head coach, the Saints could be looking to re-tool their roster and that could mean eating some of the salary in 2022 while trying to clear the books for the future.

If that is the case, there are some players the Dallas Cowboys should be interested in. Of course, they would have to make some moves to get under the cap themselves but none of these players have a big enough contract that it would prohibit them from being in consideration.

Last season, the Cowboys’ biggest weakness of offense was the play of their interior line. Zack Martin continued to be a beast but Tyler Biadasz struggled at center and Connor Williams has a human flag at left guard.

In an effort to shore that up, they could see what it would take to bring in Erik McCoy who has been a fixture at center for the Saints over the past three seasons. While trading McCoy might not seem like a logical plan, it’s something New Orleans should consider.

As of now, his contract is costing them roughly $3.4 million but he’s also entering the final season of his rookie contract. Rather than giving him a big contract, they could be willing to get something in return and free up some space for the future.

In Dallas, that could make him a one-year rental but it would buy them time to address other needs while vastly improving the line for the upcoming season.
