No.1 NFL Hall of Fame snub: Devin Hester, Kick Returner, Chicago Bears

If you played the Chicago Bears, do not kick it to Devin Hester. Do not kick it. Again, please do not do it. Well, Adam Vinatieri did it, and 12 seconds into Super Bowl XLI, Hester is in the endzone. While Peyton Manning made up for it, you could see him and Tony Dungy looking at each other, thinking, “How in God’s name did that happen, and whose idea was it?”

Drafted in the second round back in 2006. Hester made a name for himself against Green Bay in Week 1 and had a phenomenal rookie season. In all, the Windy City Flier finished his career with a record 20 total return touchdowns (14 punts and six kickoffs). His performance against Denver and Todd Sauerbrun will forever live in infamy for the Mile High City. Hester is also a member of the NFL 100 All-Time Team.

Devin Hester should have made it by now, but again, it’s a numbers game, and there are just too many people for slots.

He’s going to get in, and maybe when he does get in, the Pro Football Hall of Fame will probably let him return one more kickoff for celebration. But what’s that rule again? Oh yes, do not kick it to Devin Hester because he will end up in the endzone more often than not.
