Dante Fowler Jr. landing spot No. 3: Denver Broncos
One of the first things you need to do when a player hits free agency is looking for some connections on coaching staffs around the league he might have.
In Dante Fowler Jr.’s case, there aren’t a ton.
His defensive coordinator with the Los Angeles Rams — where he racked up 11.5 sacks in the 2019 season — was Wade Phillips, who is no longer in the NFL.
The defensive staff he made it to the AFC Championship game with when he was a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars was led by Jacksonville head coach (at the time) Gus Bradley, who is now with the Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts could be a spot for Fowler, but they also just used their top two picks in last year’s draft on pass rushers.
The Denver Broncos are an interesting fit with some indirect coaching connections to Fowler. Nathaniel Hackett is now the Denver Broncos’ head coach and he was the offensive coordinator with the Jaguars during that AFC title run.
Ejiro Evero is set to become the Denver Broncos’ defensive coordinator and was with Wade Phillips’ staff in Los Angeles during a couple of very successful years for Fowler.
The Broncos also happen to have a pretty big need off the edge as we head into the 2022 offseason. They are a very logical fit for Fowler Jr. who might come to them at a bargain price as well.
