Top 25 NFL free agency WRs No. 3: Mike Williams, Los Angeles Chargers

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams is a very obvious franchise tag candidate in 2022, which is extremely unfortunate for him.

He will be 28 in October, so time is really running out for him to get a long-term, big-money contract.

After playing all five years on his rookie deal with the Chargers, Williams is now poised to have to wait until his age 29 season to get paid in a big way, and being that close to the age of 30, it’s hard to see any teams really backing up the Brinks truck to sign him to a huge deal.

The Chargers should do right by Williams and sign him to a long-term deal.

He’s coming off of the best season of his NFL career so far with 76 receptions for over 1,100 yards and nine touchdowns.

He’s emerged as one of Justin Herbert’s most reliable targets and is an absolute stud when it comes to making plays downfield and in the red zone.

With over $56 million in available cap space, the Chargers would be foolish not to skip the franchise tag and just re-sign one of Herbert’s most valuable weapons.
