The result — $16.2 million savings

So with just these three cuts the Chicago Bears free up another $16.2 million. That puts them into the top five in teams with the most cap space. Of course, other teams can make the same type of moves to move up themselves. Still, having over $40 million in cap space allows them to hit free agency hard.

Let’s remember, also, that there are other players on the roster who can restructure their deals, thus freeing up even more space. That makes Chicago major players in free agency. With a new regime in place and their franchise quarterback, Justin Fields, now solidly in charge, the Chicago Bears could be an attractive landing spot this offseason.

Let’s see if Poles gets the players head coach Matt Eberflus needs to turn things around. Things are setting up nicely for the Bears to make a major overhaul and improve the team in just the regime’s first season.

If that happens, we could finally be seeing competitive football coming from the home team in 2022.
