Houston Gamblers first-round QB: Clayton Thorson

Houston Gamblers head coach: Kevin Sumlin

Once upon a time, there were plenty of people in the NFL and NFL Draft community that really liked former Northwestern quarterback Clayton Thorson.

Thorson was a fifth-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles who has actually spent time on every NFC East roster except for Washington’s.

The first player actually drafted to the NFL that was drafted in the USFL, expectations will be high for Thorson playing for former Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin.

Birmingham Stallions first-round QB: Alex McGough

Birmingham Stallions head coach: Skip Holtz

For the past four years, Alex McGough has been bouncing all around the NFL with stints with the Seattle Seahawks (who drafted him in the 7th round of the 2018 NFL Draft), Jacksonville Jaguars, and Houston Texans.

He’s been all over the place but will now have a chance in the USFL to really work on his game under head coach Skip Holtz.

In his four years at Florida International, McGough had 65 passing touchdowns and 16 rushing touchdowns.
