2022 NFL Power Rankings: Los Angeles Rams start out on top
By Randy Gurzi
6. San Francisco 49ers
Kyle Shanahan is one of the brightest offensive minds in the game but his defense is what really stands out. In 2021, the San Francisco 49ers finished third overall in yards surrendered and ninth in points. On offense, they were middle of the pack in passing but stood out in the run game — and made sure they got their best player, Deebo Samuel, the ball both through the air and on the ground.
They rode this formula to the NFC Championship but lost to the Rams in a heartbreaker. Looking ahead, they have a big decision to make. They took Trey Lance third overall in 2021 and he sat behind Jimmy Garoppolo all season. Now, they need to decide if Lance is ready and if so, start shopping Jimmy G to see what they can get.
5. Green Bay Packers
Coming in at No. 5 is the Green Bay Packers who could have the biggest drop of anyone once the regular season starts if things don’t go their way. Right now, Davante Adams is a free agent and they also still have to see if Aaron Rodgers wants to return. Remember, he nearly didn’t come back in 2021 and only did so once the team made leaving in 2022 an option.
Until he does leave though, Rodgers being on the roster makes the Packers a threat. He continues to lead them to wins no matter who is around him and that will happen again if he comes back for another year.
