NFL Free Agency 2022: Best fit for Brandon Scherff

Besides pass rusher and quarterback, the most valuable position in the NFL is the offensive line.  Even the best units in the NFL could use depth pieces, but with Brandon Scherff, you’re talking about one of the very best in the league, regardless of position.

Scherff has been tagged two straight years by the Washington Commanders and is set to be a free agent again this season.

He has an issue staying healthy, though.  Scherff has played in just 11 games in both the 2019 and 2021 seasons and played in just 8 games in 2018.

Even with his injury history, the Pro Bowler will be able to land a giant contract on the open market.  Some teams will believe that getting 11-13 games from Scherff per year is a better investment than their current solution, which is probably true.

What’s nice about this year is that teams who have the most cap space also have a huge need along their respective offensive lines.

The Bengals are the most obvious.  They need just about every position, and Scherff could solve part of their issue.  The Miami Dolphins also need help down in the trenches.

One final team who may not embrace a rebuild and try to re-tool their roster is the Pittsburgh Steelers, who somehow made the playoffs in 2021.

Scherff will have several offers to pick from, but I do think the Bengals present the best situation for Scherff to cash in and perhaps further build a fringe-Hall of Fame career.
