Veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo could very well wind up as the most notable player at his position traded in 2022. Where is he going?
When all is said and done in the 2022 NFL offseason, it wouldn’t be shocking if the biggest name to be traded at the quarterback position was not Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Derek Carr, or even Kirk Cousins, but Jimmy Garoppolo.
Garoppolo may not inspire a ton of confidence in the fan base of whatever team he ends up on (if the 49ers trade him at all).
With supply and demand the way it is right now at the quarterback position (far more demand than supply), the 49ers would be seriously playing with fire if they actually decided not to trade Garoppolo. The reality is, they will probably get a lot more for him than they would in other offseasons because of the lack of players truly available in the 2022 offseason.
Sure, it’s fun to speculate about what an Aaron Rodgers trade could look like or what Russell Wilson would look like in another NFL city, but it’s just really hard to believe those guys will actually be on the move in 2022.
Even if a player like Carson Wentz becomes available in the 2022 offseason, I think Garoppolo could really be the most coveted player available via trade because of the fact that he has been so beloved by his teammates in San Francisco and he only has one year left on his contract.
You might be trading a second-round pick for Garoppolo in 2022, but you also might get a third-round pick back for him in the next couple of years as a compensatory selection.
We’ve already taken multiple looks at the trade landscape for Garoppolo but it feels like a deal should go down before or close to the start of NFL Free Agency (check out one free agent signing prediction for each team here) and a lot of teams still make a lot of sense.
Let’s try and rank them based on their draft capital, salary cap assets, and desperation.
