Jimmy Garoppolo destination no. 5: Indianapolis Colts

I think the Colts are in the top five of the conversation surrounding Jimmy Garoppolo, but as of right now, I think they are bordering on being in the “outside-looking-in” category.

The Colts have cap space and a good coach in Frank Reich, but their weapons at the offensive skill positions need to be upgraded and there are simply other teams with better options right now.

To counter that (my own) argument, Jonathan Taylor was arguably the MVP of the NFL this past season and is capable of putting the offense on his back.

Michael Pittman Jr. is a fine receiver and one of the bright young players at his position in the NFL.

With that being said, the Colts may not be the ideal landing spot for a player like Garoppolo just purely in terms of the number of weapons other teams that could be interested have already under contract.

Still, if the Colts are motivated to move on from Carson Wentz, we have already seen these two teams (Indianapolis and San Francisco) come together on a big trade recently (DeForest Buckner) and that relationship equity is important when it comes to making trades in the NFL.

What also has to be considered here? The Colts are already low on Draft capital and don’t have a first-round pick in 2022. They still have picks in rounds two and three but if they trade their top pick for Garoppolo, that’s another asset they won’t be able to use to upgrade the talent around him.
