Houston Texans: Charvarius Ward, CB (Chiefs)

Are the Houston Texans a preferred landing spot for the top NFL free agents? Maybe not, but they were still one of the most active teams in free agency last offseason and we could see plenty of activity for Nick Caserio again in 2022 as he continues to tinker with both his coaching staff and his roster.

David Culley is out after one season and Lovie Smith has moved into the head coach’s chair for the Texans.

Lovie’s defense needs some help at the cornerback position and Charvarius Ward seems like the type of player in free agency that would either sign a short-term deal with Houston with a solid guarantee to hit free agency again in 2023 or maybe Houston will just see the 25-year-old as a potential building block and sign him to a longer-term deal.

One way or another, cornerback is a primary need in Houston as they continue to rebuild the roster from the ground up, and Ward has been a solid player for the Kansas City Chiefs defense.

He had two interceptions and 10 passes broken up last season in Kansas City along with 67 total tackles. He’s shown some value in the past as a blitzer as well.
