Dallas Cowboys Round 5 Pick: Jelani Woods, TE, Virginia
Another player set for free agency is tight end Dalton Schultz. There’s a chance the Cowboys could try and bring him back but if they do, they likely will have to move on from Blake Jarwin and his contract. Either way, there’s a good chance they could end up needing a new tight end.
They land one in Round 5 as they pick up Jelani Woods from Virginia. Standing in at nearly 6-foot-7 and 259-pounds, Woods is an intriguing prospect that was once a quarterback recruit for Oklahoma State. He broke out when he graduated and transferred to Virginia where he had 44 receptions for 598 yards and eight touchdowns.
There’s a lot of upside here and it could be worth this late-round flier to see if he can make it into the rotation for Dallas.
Dallas Cowboys Round 6 Pick: Joshua Ross, LB, Michigan
The linebacker position looks much different in Dallas right now than it did just one season ago. Entering the 2021 offseason, Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch were the primary starters but now Smith is gone and LVE seems to be on the way out as a free agent.
Micah Parsons is the new alpha in the corps and they have high hopes for Jabril Cox who was hurt during his rookie season. Here, they add more depth as they use their final pick on Michigan linebacker Joshua Ross.
He could find his way onto the field as a special-teamer as a rookie but there’s a chance he could be developed into a contributor down the road.
