The Dallas Cowboys likely won’t spend big in free agency, again, but these three players could still come in and help them improve in 2022

Somewhere along the way, the Dallas Cowboys have gone from one end of the spectrum to the other. Once a team that threw caution to the wind and attacked free agency with a passion, this front office is now one of the more conservative in the entire NFL.

Jerry Jones, who made his name as a bit of a gambler, might still have the general manager title but it’s clear that his son, Stephen Jones, and Will McClay are now the ones running things. And their approach is vastly different from the owner.

There are countless fans who loathe how tight they have become but it’s not changing anytime soon. That means we should get used to seeing their frugality shine through in free agency once again.

With all this being said, we look at three players who could be realistic targets for the Cowboys when the 2022 market opens up.

Dallas Cowboys FA target No. 3: Damien Wilson, LB

The first realistic target for Dallas is a player who is familiar to this organization. Damien Wilson was a fourth-round pick out of Minnesota back in 2015 and spent his first four seasons in the NFL playing for Dallas.

In that span, he played in 64 games with 22 starts and had 121 tackles. He then headed to Kansas City where he won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs and spent 2021 with the Jacksonville Jaguars. This proved to be his best statistical season as he had 106 tackles, three sacks, and his first career pick with the Jags.

Now a free agent again, Wilson could be a logical fit in Dallas where they’re potentially looking for two starters to join Micah Parsons. A homecoming for Wilson doesn’t seem that far-fetched and he won’t break the bank — which is important to this front office.
