Carson Wentz Con: What were the Colts even going to do with him?

We were all pretty aware that the Colts were likely going to cut Wentz right? No, it is not a guarantee, but it was absolutely the writing on the wall. Couldn’t Washington have waited and not have to spend any draft picks to get him?

Okay, there are two arguments I’ve seen people making when it comes to this. First, they say “maybe the Colts weren’t going to cut him!” Sure, fair point. I’ll counter with this, would it have been the end of the world if Washington missed out on Wentz?

The other argument was “other teams could have gone after him!” Again, fair point. I’ll counter with this. How many teams realistically were going to go after Wentz? Maybe the Detroit Lions or Seattle Seahawks? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers or Pittsburgh Steelers? It’s not like the market would’ve been on fire for him. And again, if they miss out, would it have been the end of the world?

The Commanders were clearly in panic mode. They have been linked to every single quarterback that’s even been talked about. And they were apparently being very aggressive about it too. It seems like the Colts recognized that and got something out of them that if they were patient, they wouldn’t have had to give up.
