Green Bay Packers 7-round mock draft following Aaron Rodgers deal
By Lucas Schuh
Now that Aaron Rodgers has made it official that he is staying in Green Bay, it’s time to look to the future.
Since last year’s draft, things in Green Bay have been rather, how you say, tense. Hours before the 2021 NFL Draft, news broke that Aaron Rodgers was very unhappy with the Green Bay Packers front office staff.
The main reason that Rodgers was upset with the Green Bay Packers front office was because of how the Packers have treated their players in the past. The specific examples that were reported on were Randall Cobb and Jake Kumerow both being cut, and the Packers drafting Jordan Love without letting Rodgers know ahead of time.
While Packers fans were having an absolute meltdown, the NFL season moved on. The Packers had a solid draft as Eric Stokes has proven to be a solid cornerback, while Josh Meyers and Royce Newman have been serviceable offensive linemen at the very least. The Packers also tried to somewhat appease Rodgers by signing one of his best friends in Randall Cobb.
After what was a hectic off-season, to say the least, the regular season arrived. Despite a few road bumps, notably with the Rodgers Covid issue, the Green Bay Packers ended up finishing with the best record in the NFC. Green Bay tore through most of the NFL and was all set to make a deep run into the playoffs, that was until they were upset by the San Francisco 49ers.
After a wild off-season and an outstanding regular season, the last thing the Packers and their fanbase wanted was to lose in the playoffs at Lambeau Field. As Rodgers left the field, he signed I love you to the Lambeau Field crowd, something he does after almost all of his Packer home games, but you could tell based on Rodgers’s face, he was definitely upset or feeling something not positive.
Since the end of the Packer’s Super Bowl hopes, there wasn’t much immediate news surrounding Rodgers. A Rodgers Instagram post raised some eyes, but after Rodgers showed up on the Pat McAfee and dispelled any relation between his Instagram post his Packers situation, things got somewhat quiet again.
A decision was finally made this past Tuesday as Pat McAfee tweeted out that Rodgers was returning to the Packers. Initial reports came out that Rodgers was going to make $200 million on a 4-year deal, but McAfee once again tweeted out that the deal was not accurate
Not only did Rodgers announce that he was coming back to Titletown, but the Packers also placed their franchise tag on Davante Adams. Now that Rodgers has announced his intention to keep playing for the Packers and with Adams locked up for at least one more season, the Packers can now look towards the future.
Just a note before I get into all of the picks, but the picks I select for the Packers will be what I think the Packers should do, not what I think they will do. I also will be using the NFL Mock Draft Database Draft Simulator to assist me with this article, as it will help stimulate the unpredictability of the draft.
