Green Bay Packers mock draft: Abraham Lucas, OT, Washington State

Offensive Tackle. Abraham Lucas. 3. 846. Washington State. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

A lot of teams are known for something and one thing the Green Bay Packers have been known for, for a while now, is having quality offensive linemen. In previous years, the Packers have had the likes of J.C Tretter, T.J Lang, Bryan Bulaga, and Corey Linsley, all of whom are or have been great offensive linemen.

Even in the present day, the Packers have some quality offensive linemen. David Bakhtiari is one of the best pass-blocking offensive tackles in the NFL, meanwhile, Elgton Jenkins has proven to be a high-end offensive lineman, despite only being in the NFL for a short time. Green Bay drafted two more offensive linemen next year in Josh Meyers and Royce Newman, both of who earned starting snaps.

The only person who might have question marks around him is Billy Turner. Turner is an okay offensive tackle who offers the Packers a lot of versatility, but again, he isn’t a quality offensive tackle. With only two years left on his contract, and with the Packers being in a bad cap situation, it would be wise for the Packers to bring in an offensive tackle through the draft, which is why Abraham Lucas could be just the guy.

At the NFL Combine, Abraham Lucas came in at a mountainous 6’6 315 pounds. While Lucas is certainly a big boy by most any standard, he is surprisingly nimble and quick on his feet. Part of the reason that Lucas has become so nimble and light on his feet is thanks in part to playing under Mike Leach for two seasons at Washington State, that was before Leach left for Mississippi State.

While Lucas is a big guy, he doesn’t play like he is. Lucas won’t push around defenders in the run game, and he has poor hand placement which only makes things worse when it comes to his power and strength in blocking.

While Lucas is a quality offensive tackle, he probably shouldn’t be starting at offensive tackle any time soon. His poor hand placement will see him get walked back into his QB, and he will likely struggle in terms of the run game as well. Luckily for the Green Bay Packers, they can play Billy Turner at right tackle for a year or so while Lucas develops.
