3 bold offseason predictions for the Green Bay Packers in 2022
No. 2 – The Green Bay Packers Trade Up to Draft a Receiver in the 1st Round
It’s mind-boggling how taking a wide receiver in the 1st Round of the 2022 NFL Draft is a bold pick for the Green Bay Packers, yet here we are. Since quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been under center for Titletown, the team has yet to draft a wideout on Day 1 of the draft.
Crazy how they neglect to do so and everyone wonders why Rodgers only targets Davante Adams. It’s because everyone else was either a 3rd Day pick (Marquez Valdes-Scantling – 174th overall in 2018) or they were undrafted (Allen Lazard – 2018).
The Green Bay Packers are one of the few teams in the NFL that actually drafts and develops players rather effectively. They’re able to turn a 5th round draft pick into one of the more electric deep-threat wideouts in the league with MVS, or take an undrafted tight end and make him one of the best receiving threats at the position with Robert Tonyan, or draft a left tackle in the 4th round and make him the best in the world at his position.
The Packers can turn a nobody into somebody, now just imagine if they already had a player who is a somebody? Could you imagine if Brian Gutekunst traded up in the 1st-Round like he did when taking quarterback Jordan Love, but instead he did so to take a high-ceiling wide receiver?
If they really want to show Rodgers that they’ve turned a page and are in it for the now, they’ll use their draft capital and put together a package so they can draft a wide receiver like Drake London out of USC.
Matt LeFleur’s offense is tailored for the prototypical receivers that can run routes, block in the run, and go up for the 50/50 balls. As a basketball player at USC for two years before fully committing to football, if there’s one thing that London does best it’s going up for the 50/50 balls.
Standing at a freakish 6’5″ – 210 pounds., Drake London is the next Mike Evans of the NFL. He has size, he has good hands, he can run routes, and he can be physical.
Brian Gutekunst, If you want to silence the critics and put an end to the drama of the last few seasons behind you, do what you need to do and trade up for an elite receiver that can make an immediate impact. Drake London going to the New York Giants or Philadelphia Eagles is a waste to his potential
. Bringing him to Green Bay could be the difference between another loss in the NFC Championship or winning the Super Bowl.
