Even after a bevy of signings, the Jacksonville Jaguars remained active in free agency on Monday. The Jaguars add TE Evan Engram as another piece in their weaponry for Trevor Lawrence.

The Jacksonville Jaguars went on a spending spree on Monday, as they’ve agreed to terms with LB Foye Oluokun, guard Brandon Scherff, DT Foley Fatukasi, and WR Christian Kirk. They kept the trend going with the signing of former New York Giants TE Evan Engram.

There’s been a lot of chatter around Engram being used as a slot receiver, seeing as he logged 304 snaps (44% of snaps ) from there in 2021. Although he’s coming off one of the most subpar seasonal stat lines of his career (46 receptions, 408 yards, 3 touchdowns), the Ole Miss product did play with Daniel Jones for most of the season (ranked 22nd in QBR, 26th in passer rating, respectively).

One of the most dynamic receiving threats in the league at TE, Engram’s 4.42 time in the 40-yard dash often times shows up on film. Despite a down ’21 season, Engram has earned one Pro Bowl nod (2020), has topped 500 yards receiving on three occasions, and has two 60-plus catch campaigns. Former Giant’s best showing came as a rookie, as he had career-highs of 64 catches, 722 yards, and six scores.

This is just one of the many moves JAX has made to support 2021 No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence. After tagging LT Cam Robinson and signing a former All-Pro in Scherff, as well as adding a fellow pass catcher in Kirk, Engram could be the help the team needs for a passing attack that ranked 22nd overall in passing offense and had the least amount of TD passes in the NFL with 12.

A prove-it deal with Jacksonville as well, Engram could help add to a position group the Jags have historically struggled with. The last Jags TE to record more than 500 yards receiving in a season was Marcedes Lewis in 2012.
