The Philadelphia Eagles have crossed one of their biggest offseason needs off the list by signing free agent pass rusher Haason Reddick.

The Philadelphia Eagles, armed with three first-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft and a healthy amount of salary cap space, have struck early in 2022 NFL Free Agency.

According to the man himself, the Eagles have signed free agent pass rusher Haason Reddick, who is coming back “home” to the city where he played his college ball.

Haason Reddick lands a big contract with the Philadelphia Eagles

According to reports, the contract Reddick is getting to head home is worth $45 million over three years, an average of $15 million per season.

Considering how productive Reddick has been over the last two seasons with the Cardinals and Panthers, this kind of contract is at least a little bit surprising.

Since the start of the 2020 season, Reddick has 23.5 sacks, 27 tackles for loss, 34 quarterback hits, and 67 pressures. That kind of pass rush productivity is valuable in today’s NFL but $15 million per season for what Reddick has done?

That seems like a bargain for the Philadelphia Eagles.

We can only assume that Reddick had targeted the Eagles in free agency and that he didn’t exactly open himself up for a bidding war. A contract worth $15 million per season is up there with what we saw Trey Hendrickson get from the Bengals last offseason, so in that regard, this seems like a pretty fair deal.

Still, how many pass rushers in the NFL today have the same type of production as Reddick over the last two seasons and are still only 27 years old?

For the Philadelphia Eagles, no one is complaining. General manager Howie Roseman is always aggressive and we can expect him to continue making aggressive moves as the Eagles won nine games last season and exceeded almost every expectation.

A player like Reddick boosts their chances to close out close games and helps Jonathan Gannon’s defense in the turnover department.

In addition to his pass rush productivity, Reddick has eight forced fumbles over the last two seasons. The Eagles were one of the worst teams in the NFL last season at creating turnovers (16 turnovers forced, 26th in the NFL) and Reddick is not only capable of forcing turnovers on his own, but also his pass rush is going to cause some bad throws from quarterbacks into coverage.

Still armed with plenty of cap space and those aforementioned three first-round picks, the Philadelphia Eagles can still do plenty more damage in the coming weeks. They need to continue to upgrade and address their defensive personnel and they’re also expected to be players in the wide receiver market.

For now, the Eagles look to have gotten one of the best bargain signings on day one of free agency. Even though $15 million per year is anything but chump change, that’s at or below market level at this point for pass rushers with Reddick’s level of productivity.
