Jets sign Tomlinson in free agency

Deal: 3-years, $40 million

Grade: B

This move is very much similar to the Cappa one. The Jets have a young quarterback that they are building around but need better and more consistent play from their offensive line. Thus, they made the necessary move of adding Laken Tomlinson to their roster. He should be a huge boost for their offensive line and help keep Zach Wilson upright.

Tomlinson has developed into a consistently top-rated guard over the past few seasons with the 49ers. The Jets are getting a great player that, while a little older, is still a capable starter and should remain there over the course of the entire deal. Tomlinson boosts both the passing and rushing game immensely and his addition to the team was a huge day one win.

The reason his deal is ranked slightly below Cappa is due to his age and cost. While Tomlinson is the better guard at this point in his career, he costs nearly 5 million more per season right now. That is far too big of a jump considering the play of the two guards is both good. This isn’t a bad deal by any means, but the Bengals got a slightly better value pickup in Cappa. That said, the Jets shouldn’t be upset with this deal.
